Acceptable Use Policy
Applies to every server, IP address and service operated within AS198997.
01Scope
By using a server, an IP address or any other service of AS198997, you agree to comply with this policy.
It applies to every service operated by AS198997 and to everyone who uses one. That includes virtual machines with an IP address from AS198997, the IP addresses themselves, and any other service provided on this network.
If you operate a virtual machine with an address from AS198997, this policy applies to everything that runs on it and to all traffic it sends.
You are responsible for all activity on your account, your virtual machine and the addresses assigned to you, including the actions of anyone you give access to.
02Prohibited use
Services of AS198997 must not be used for any of the following:
- Unlawful content and activity. Any content or activity that is prohibited by law. This covers what you store, publish or transmit as well as what you use a service for, and includes infringing the rights of others.
- Attacks and unauthorised access. Scanning, probing or testing systems without the explicit permission of their owner, gaining or attempting to gain unauthorised access, denial-of-service attacks, and sending traffic with spoofed source addresses.
- Malware and phishing. Distributing malicious software, operating command-and-control infrastructure, hosting phishing pages and collecting credentials.
- Spam. Sending unsolicited bulk email or messages, operating open mail relays and harvesting email addresses.
- Harassment. Threats, harassment, publishing the private data of others, and content that incites hatred or violence.
- Resource abuse. Cryptocurrency mining, and sustained load that degrades the network or the service of other users.
03Services that require approval
The following may only be operated with prior written approval from noc@as198997.net. Approval must be obtained before the service goes online.
- VPN and proxy services of any kind, including those for private use
- Mail servers and any other service that sends email
- Tor exit nodes
- Load, stress and denial-of-service tests, including tests against your own systems
An approved mail server must publish valid SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for every domain it sends from.
04Security of your systems
You must keep your systems up to date and protect them against unauthorised use.
Services that can be abused for reflection or amplification attacks must not be reachable from the internet without access controls. This applies in particular to open DNS resolvers, NTP, memcached, SSDP and SNMP.
Security testing of systems that are not yours requires the explicit permission of their owner.
05IP addresses
IP addresses are assigned for use with a service of AS198997. They are not sold, and no ownership passes to you. They may not be announced from another network, sub-assigned or passed on to others without written approval.
You are responsible for the reputation of the addresses assigned to you for as long as you use them. Requests for reverse DNS entries and geolocation corrections are handled by noc@as198997.net.
06Reporting abuse
Abuse originating from AS198997 can be reported to abuse@as198997.net. A report should contain the IP address concerned, the date and time including the time zone, and supporting evidence such as log excerpts or complete email headers.
Every report is reviewed by a person. For reasons of privacy and security, the outcome cannot always be shared with the reporter.
If a report concerning your service is forwarded to you, you must respond within 24 hours and resolve the cause. During an active incident, such as outgoing attacks, phishing or the distribution of malware, traffic may be filtered, addresses null-routed or the service suspended immediately and without prior notice.
07Communication and approvals
Requests, reports and approvals under this policy are handled exclusively by email through the addresses named in this document: noc@as198997.net for approvals and technical requests, and abuse@as198997.net for abuse reports and objections.
An approval is valid only if it was given in writing from one of these addresses. Statements made through any other channel do not constitute an approval and do not create an exception to this policy.
08Enforcement
Depending on its severity, a violation of this policy results in a warning, the filtering of traffic, suspension or permanent termination of the service. Unlawful content is removed, and offences are reported to the competent authorities.
If you believe that a measure was taken in error, you can object by writing to abuse@as198997.net. The decision will then be reviewed.
09Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the network, its services or the applicable law change. The version published on this page is the one in force; the date of the last change is shown at the top.
